The GF Machining Solutions Mikron HPM 1350U is a 5-axis vertical machining center with a reputation for rigid, thermally symmetric construction that has made it a staple in aerospace, mold and die, and energy-sector shops. This 2015 HPM 1350U uses a cross-bed design on a GG25 cast-iron base, with X 53.15 / Y 45.28 / Z 27.56 inch travels, an A-axis swivel head tilting from +16 to -110 degrees, and a direct-drive 43.3 inch diameter NC rotary table rated for 3,527 lbs centrally, for simultaneous 5-axis and 5+1 machining. The water-cooled 10,000 RPM HSK-A100 motor spindle is rated at 45.6 HP (34 kW) and 239 ft-lbs of torque at 40% ED, with through-spindle coolant. Tooling runs from a 170-position free-standing multi-level tool tower that accepts tools up to 19.68 inches long and 26.4 lbs, with a 15-second chip-to-chip time. The Heidenhain iTNC 530 control with 15 inch color display handles 5-axis programming, and the model is rated for 1,260 IPM feed on X, Y, and Z with 0.0003 inch X-axis positioning accuracy. This unit is equipped with APS Extended process monitoring, a 950 liter band filter, Balluff tool ID, a Delphin base plate with six HHPA chucks, a 2 hydraulic / 1 air rotary union, oil mist extraction, a chip conveyor, a rotating window, and a left-side robot interface with automated door.
Compared with the earlier-generation Mikron UCP 1350, which paired a 1,100 mm swivel-head table platform with a Heidenhain TNC 430 control and a 46-position standard tool magazine (96 optional), the HPM 1350U brings the same large-part class into GF's High Performance Milling line. The iTNC 530 adds far larger program storage and Ethernet networking for long 5-axis toolpaths, while the free-standing 170-tool tower can be loaded during machining and holds enough tools to run complex aerospace and mold jobs without constant tool swaps. The HSK-A100 spindle is built for torque-driven cutting in steel and cast iron, and the direct-drive rotary and tilt axes clamp hydraulically for rigid 3+2 positioning as well as full simultaneous 5-axis work. For shops that need big 5-axis capacity, the HPM 1350U is a meaningfully more capable machine than the UCP generation before it.
