The Haas VF-3SS is a super-speed CNC vertical machining center whose simple, dependable design has made it a staple in job shops and production cells across North America. This 2019 unit offers X/Y/Z travels of 40 x 20 x 25 inches over a 48 x 18 inch T-slot table, a 15,000 RPM inline direct-drive CAT 40-taper spindle, 1,400 ipm rapids on all three axes, and a 30+1 side-mount tool changer. It is configured as a 5-axis package with a Haas TRT160 dual-axis trunnion rotary table and the 4th and 5th axis drives and wiring, giving 3+2 positioning for multi-sided parts in one setup. The Haas control carries Rigid Tapping, Macros, Rotation and Scaling, High Speed Machining, Spindle Orientation, TCPC and Dynamic Work Offsets, VPS Editing, Ethernet, Haas Connect, and Early Power Failure Detection. Chip and coolant management includes 300 PSI through-spindle coolant, a programmable coolant nozzle, through-tool air blast, an auxiliary coolant filter, a 55 gallon coolant tank, a quad multi-auger chip conveyor, and a Haas mist condenser. Together these make the VF-3SS a strong fit for high-speed milling of aluminum, steel, and other alloys in aerospace, automotive, medical, and general job shop environments.
Compared with the standard Haas VF-3, the VF-3SS is the faster, more capable choice. The base VF-3 is rated at 8,100 RPM with 1,000 ipm rapids and a 20-pocket carousel tool changer, while the VF-3SS moves to a 15,000 RPM inline direct-drive spindle, 1,400 ipm rapids, and a 30+1 side-mount tool changer for quicker tool swaps and more tools on hand. Add the TRT160 trunnion with TCPC and DWO, and the machine handles 3+2 and multi-sided work that a 3-axis VF-3 would need several setups to complete. For buyers, that means shorter cycle times, fewer fixtures, and more work quoted from a single 40-taper machine.
