The Haas VF-2SS is a high-speed 40-taper CNC vertical machining center built on Haas's widely used VF-2 frame, a dependable choice for shops that need fast small-part production without a large footprint. This 2023 unit provides 30 x 16 x 20 inch X/Y/Z travels over a 36 x 14 inch table with three 5/8 inch T-slots, with 4 to 24 inches of spindle nose to table clearance for fixtures, vises and small-part production across aerospace, medical, automotive and contract machining work. The CAT 40 inline direct-drive spindle is rated by Haas at 12,000 RPM, 30 HP and 90 ft-lb of torque, and the machine is designed for 1,400 ipm rapids and 833 ipm maximum cutting feed. Tooling is handled by a 30+1 side-mount tool changer rated at 1.6 seconds tool-to-tool and 2.2 seconds chip-to-chip, with capacity for tools up to 5 inches in diameter (adjacent pockets empty), 11 inches long and 12 lb. Control is the Haas Next Generation Control with the touch-screen option, 1 GB program memory, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Haas wireless file transfer, high-speed machining, rigid tapping, Safe Run mode, Media Display M-code, surge protection and early power-failure detection. Equipment includes flood coolant with a 55-gallon tank, 300 psi through-spindle coolant, Haas window blast, a chip auger, a rotary-ready 4th-axis drive and a low-voltage transformer.
Against the standard Haas VF-2, with its 8,100 RPM spindle and 20+1 carousel changer, the VF-2SS steps up to a 12,000 RPM spindle, higher rapids and a faster side-mount tool changer. It also outclasses older VF-2SS machines built with a 24+1 changer and the Classic Haas Control, adding six more tool pockets and the Next Generation Control's 1 GB memory, 15-inch display and wireless file transfer. The result is a more capable, better-connected VF-2SS that gives a buyer shorter cycle times and room to add a rotary in the same compact footprint.
