Doosan Lynx 2600: Four Models, and Nine Specs That Go Backwards

What is the Doosan Lynx 2600?

The Lynx 2600 is a 10-inch chuck CNC turning center from Doosan, now sold under the DN Solutions badge. The family is exactly four machines: the two-axis Lynx 2600, the 2600M with driven tooling, the 2600Y with a Y-axis, and the 2600SY which adds a sub-spindle. There is no long-bed L variant, there is no second generation, and there is no Lynx 3100. Those designations belong to the Puma line, which shares the 2600 number but is a different machine on box ways. Every Lynx 2600 carries the same 91 mm bore, 81 mm bar capacity, A2-8 nose and 18.5 kW spindle at 3,500 rpm.

Almost everything confusing you will read about a used Doosan Lynx 2600 describes a different machine. The family is exactly four models, and there is no long-bed L version, no second generation, and nothing built before 2020. Every listing that says otherwise is a Puma 2600 or a Lynx 300 wearing the wrong name.

The reason it keeps happening is that 2600 is not a Lynx model number at all. It is a Doosan size-class index, and it exists in both the Lynx line and the Puma line. Box ways, a 2017 build year, an L suffix: each of those is the tell, and each of them points at the other machine.

This breakdown establishes what the four machines actually are, what the number really encodes, the nine specs that go backwards as you add capability, and the reason this particular family is almost impossible to buy used right now.

The roster is four machines, and that is the whole list

That is the complete roster, confirmed on the manufacturer's own product pages and in both brochures for the family. Two of our researchers went looking for anything else and came back with nothing.

There is no Lynx 2600L, 2600LM, 2600LY or 2600LSY. The L is a long-bed letter and it belongs to the Lynx 2100, where it adds turning length. No Lynx 2600 has a long-bed version at all. A 2600LM is a Puma DNT.

There is no Lynx 2600 II. The II is a Puma convention. Puma 2600Y II, 2600SY II, 2600LY II, 2600YB II and 2600SYB II all exist and are current. No Lynx carries a II.

There is no Lynx 3100. A 3100 is a Puma. So the widely searched comparison of a Lynx 2600 against a 3100 is really a Lynx against a Puma, which is the comparison this article exists to sort out.

Where the letters come from, and what nobody defines

Worth saying plainly before we use them: DN Solutions defines none of these letters in prose anywhere we could reach. Not on the product pages, not in either brochure, not on the distributor sites. Everything below is read off the structure of the spec tables or supplied by trade press.

M is driven tooling. Established by construction: the brochure spec row is labelled rotary tool rpm, it is present on the 2600M and absent on the 2600, and the manufacturer's category for those machines is horizontal with milling.

Y is the Y-axis. Category name and a Y-axis travel row.

S is the sub-spindle. This one comes from trade press describing the 2600SY as the Y-axis and sub-spindle model. The manufacturer never spells it out.

A, B and C are chuck sizes, and only on the 2100. A is 6 inch, B is 8 inch, C is 10 inch, proven by the brochure columns. The 2600 carries no trailing chuck letter because it is a single chuck class. So a listing for a Lynx 2600A, 2600B or 2600C is a 2100, a Puma, or invented. Note also that B means something completely different on a Puma, where it denotes a 12-inch chuck.

The number is not the chuck, and one row proves it

The standard dealer line is that 2600 means a 10-inch chuck. Put the Lynx 2100LC next to it and that collapses.

Six rows identical, and they are the six a listing prints. A Lynx 2100LC and a Lynx 2600 have exactly the same spindle. Same chuck, same bore, same bar, same nose, same speed, same motor.

There is a second disproof sitting right there too. The Lynx 2100 is sold with 6, 8 and 10-inch chucks all under the same number, and its swing over bed is 600 mm across all three. So the number cannot be encoding chuck size in either direction.

What the number actually indexes is the bed and casting class: swing, carriage clearance, turning length and torque rating. Going 2100 to 2600 buys 30 mm more swing over bed, 60 mm more over the saddle, 110 mm more turning diameter, 121 mm more turning length and 50 percent more torque, on an identical spindle.

One honest caveat: DN Solutions publishes no explanation of its numbering anywhere we could find. The reading above is inference from specification data, not a statement of intent from the manufacturer.

The rule that follows

If your part fits inside 350 mm diameter by 537 mm long, a Lynx 2100LC does the same work with the same spindle and rapids 6 m/min faster in Z. Buy the 2600 for swing, length and torque. Do not buy it for chuck size, bar capacity or spindle power, because on those three it is the same machine.

Construction across all four: roller-type LM linear guideways, not box ways, with double-anchored preloaded ballscrews coupled directly to the servos. That single fact separates the Lynx from the Puma more cleanly than any number does.

Nine specs that go the wrong way

1. Adding driven tooling costs you 80 mm of turning diameter. The two-axis 2600 turns 460 mm. Every M, Y and SY machine turns 380. That is a 17 percent loss of swing, plus 48 mm of turning length, in exchange for live tools.

2. The optional high-density turret on a Y machine drops you to 292 mm. The brochure prints maximum turning diameter as 380 mm, or 292 mm with the optional turret. That is 11.5 inches. The comparison that matters is against the machine a buyer cross-shops it with, the Y-axis Lynx 2100LSYB, which turns 300 mm. Buying more tool stations costs 88 mm of swing and drops a 10-inch chuck machine below a 6-inch one on turning diameter, and it is the least disclosed trade in the family.

3. The Y machines lose X travel. 250 mm against 255 on the two-axis and M machines. Small, but it is there on two separate manufacturer pages and in the brochure.

4. The 2600SY has no tailstock at all. The CNC hydraulic tailstock is a 2600Y item. On the SY the sub-spindle occupies that space. Owners report working around it by using the sub-spindle as a makeshift tailstock and adjusting the approach distance per part on thin-wall work. If you need shaft work between centres, you want the Y, not the SY.

5. Going to a Y-axis removes the 10,000 rpm driven-tool option. The 2600M offers it. No Y or SY machine does. Whether the Y machines are also slower at the base rating is unresolved: the Y-axis brochure and two distributors print 5,000 rpm, while DN Solutions' own product pages on three regional sites print 6,000, the same as the M. Get the figure off the machine before you plan a small-diameter drilling or thread-milling job around it.

6. The base 2600 ships with the fewest turret stations in the family. Ten, where every M, Y and SY gets twelve. Twelve is a paid option on the base machine. The 2100 is not uniformly twelve either, since DN Solutions' own 2100LC page prints ten, so count the stations rather than assuming them from the model number.

7. Stepping up from a 2100 costs you Z rapid. The whole 2100 family rapids Z at 36 m/min. Every 2600 rapids Z at 30. The bigger machine is slower down the bed.

8. Stepping up from a 2100 costs you spindle speed. A 2100A tops out at 6,000 rpm and a 2100B at 4,500. The 2600 stops at 3,500. Expected given the torque, but it rules the machine out for small high-rpm work.

9. The Lynx 2600 turns 107 mm shorter than the Lynx 300 it sits above. The 300, which is still a current DN Solutions model rather than a discontinued one, turns 765 mm. The 2600 turns 658. On the milling machines it is 712 down to 610. The 2600 gains on torque, 190 Nm up to 403, and on power, but a shop moving from a Lynx 300 to a 2600 loses about four inches of turning length. Four inches is a job you can no longer quote, and not one listing or spec summary we read during this research mentions it.

One smaller oddity worth noting because it shows up on inspection: the brochure's equipment matrix marks the coolant level switch as standard on the 2100 machines but only as an option on the Lynx 2600 and the 2600M. If the seller cannot show you the original option list, assume the sensor is not there.

Lynx 2600 against Puma 2600, and why the number betrays you

This is the confusion that costs the most, and it is live in the trade rather than hypothetical. One dealer inventory we checked stocks a Puma 2600Y and no Lynx 2600 at all, and a forum thread titled for a 2600 SY II is discussing a Puma alongside a Lynx.

Nearly twice the turning length, a different way system and a different power class, behind the same four digits. Cross-shopping on the number alone puts a 22 kW box-way machine and an 18.5 kW linear-guide machine in the same column, and they are not priced, tooled or specified alike.

The check is simple and it is not the badge. Look at the ways. Roller LM blocks means Lynx. Scraped box ways means Puma.

Nothing pre-2020 is real, and the base machine is younger still

This family is much newer than most buyers assume, and the dates rule out a lot of listings.

The 2600SY was unveiled in 2020, with a trade product announcement dated 2 March 2021 describing it as the latest generation of the Lynx line with a Y-axis, and noting that it takes the design of the Lynx 2100LSYB into a slightly larger platform. The 2600Y arrived alongside it.

The base Lynx 2600 and the 2600M were only announced in August 2022, with availability stated as later that year.

Which means the practical used range as of today is 2020 through 2025, clustered 2021 to 2023, and the base machine and the M cannot be more than a few years old at all. A listing advertising a 2017 or 2018 Lynx 2600 is describing something else, almost always a Lynx 300 or 300M, the older 10-inch Lynx, or a Puma.

The rebrand falls in the middle of the family rather than at a boundary. DN Automotive acquired the business in January 2022, the name change was announced in late May 2022 and took effect on 2 June. So a 2020 or early 2022 machine wears a Doosan badge and a 2023 machine wears DN Solutions, and they are the same machine from the same factory on the same Fanuc control. The badge is not a specification, and it is not worth a premium.

Five things buyers assume that are not true

1. A sub-spindle does not mean cutting on both ends at once. The distributor states plainly that the 2600SY supports synchronised part transfer but does not perform simultaneous dual-spindle cutting. There is one turret. Buyers coming off twin-turret machines get this wrong constantly.

2. The 81 mm bar capacity does not carry through the sub-spindle. DN Solutions publishes no sub-spindle bore or bar capacity for the 2600SY in either brochure. The 65 mm figure that circulates online traces back to a specification aggregator this article does not use, and it appears to be the Lynx 2100's bar working diameter read out of an adjacent brochure column. What is certain is that the sub-spindle is the smaller of the two spindles, so the 81 mm main-spindle figure does not carry across the transfer. Get the real number off the machine plate or the original order sheet before you quote bar work that needs back-side operations.

3. Twenty-four stations does not mean twenty-four tools. Listings advertise 12-sided, 24-station. That is half-indexing on one 12-station turret. One live listing we read claimed dual 12-position turrets, which is simply wrong.

4. The Y-axis is modest. One hundred and five millimetres total, plus or minus 52.5, and it rapids at 10 m/min against 30 in X and Z. It is for off-centre holes, flats, keyways and slots. It is not for treating the lathe as a mill.

5. High-pressure coolant and a bar feeder are never included by default. Standard coolant is 1.5 bar, with 4.5, 7, 10 and 14.5 bar all optional, and the brochure lists through-spindle coolant only as a preparation package rather than a pressure-rated unit. Where a bar feeder is present it is a separate branded machine and it is part of the price.

And one specification that the manufacturer's own distributor cannot keep straight: the turret interface. The brochure and the UK distributor say BMT55P. The US distributor's own 2600Y page prints BMT-65 in one place and BMT-55 in another, on the same page. Weight of evidence favours BMT55, and BMT55 holders are shared with the Lynx 300M and the Puma 2100 and 2600, which makes the used tooling pool deep. But this decides whether your existing holders fit, so read it off the machine's own plate, not off a spec sheet.

There is almost no used market, and that is the finding

We are not going to build a price table for this family, because there is nothing honest to build one from.

After de-duplication, the number of distinct used Lynx 2600s visible worldwide at any moment is realistically single digits. On one major marketplace's Daewoo and Doosan lathe category, 178 listings contained two machines from this family. Across every dealer inventory and marketplace we could read: zero used base 2600s and zero used 2600Ms. Everything that exists is a Y or an SY.

Exactly one published asking price surfaced in the entire family: 129,950 dollars on a 2022 Lynx 2600Y with 1,039 power-on hours and 390 cutting hours, carrying collet chucks, a presetter, a hydraulic tailstock and a bar feed interface. It has since been withdrawn. That is one dealer's ask on one machine. It is not a market value.

There are no auction results. We searched every major auction house and aggregator and found no published hammer price for any Lynx 2600 variant. That is consistent with the age profile rather than surprising: a 2021 to 2023 machine is normally still financed or still working, not in a liquidation. Expect the first meaningful comps around 2027 to 2029.

Duplication is severe and we can demonstrate it. The same 1,039-hour Lynx 2600Y appears on two dealer sites under two different model years, 2022 on one and 2023 on the other, one with a price and one without. Assume the two listings you found are the same machine until proven otherwise, and resolve the year from the serial plate rather than the advert.

Advice that costs us the sale

On a family this new, get a firm new-machine quote before you sign a used deal. The one used asking price we could find was near-new money for a near-new machine, and buying new brings a warranty, an installation, training, and the ability to spec the machine you actually want rather than the one that happens to exist. If the used discount is thin, take the new one. We would rather tell you that than sell you something you regret.

What to check on a used one

The main spindle, run warm and run long. A third-party rebuilder describes the Lynx spindle as grease lubricated and belt driven, and grease packs do not self-flush. Their case documentation on a Lynx 220A, a smaller machine in the same family rather than a 2600, records catastrophic seizure over a weekend with no prior warning. On teardown they found the front labyrinth spacer and front cover seized together by debris and rust, and brown particulate contamination in front and rear bearings. The rebuilder does not claim the labyrinth caused the seizure and neither do we, but the construction is shared across the Lynx lathes and the inspection is the same. Pull the front cover shroud and look for rust and packed swarf at the labyrinth. Run 500 to 3,500 rpm and back, listening for a rumble that changes with load rather than with speed. Watch for a temperature that climbs and never plateaus.

Ten synchronised transfers on an SY, on your part. Cold-start sync failure is documented on Doosan Lynx sub-spindle machines, where the spindles do not agree on phase at the first transfer of the day and the consequence is collet or chuck galling. Owners work around it with a warm-up program and by commanding phase sync off the part before clamping. If the seller cannot demonstrate a clean transfer, the sub-spindle is unproven.

All twenty-four half-index positions, not just the twelve. Half-index is the feature most often mis-parametered and least often tested. Index every station in both directions, cold and hot, then indicate a test bar in a boring bar station over twenty cycles.

Every driven station at 1,000, 3,000 and its top rated speed. Listen for gear whine that changes by station. Forum discussion across the Doosan lathe family raises weak coolant pressure at the driven stations, gearbox rusting from coolant ingress, and difficulty sourcing internal parts. We could not verify any of those against a service record or a manufacturer bulletin, so treat them as things to look for rather than as established failure modes. Rust in a driven-tool gearbox is progressive either way.

Y-axis squareness by cut, not by dial. Mill a test flat and measure its squareness to the turned outside diameter. Y wear shows as a taper across a milled face long before it shows on an indicator.

Backlash, with a different threshold than usual. These run roller LM guides and double-anchored preloaded ballscrews. On a machine under 3,000 hours those should be effectively new, so measurable backlash on a low-hour Lynx 2600 is a crash signal rather than wear. Ballbar it, or at minimum cut a circular interpolation test.

Time the spindle. A multi-page owner thread exists specifically about spindle acceleration and deceleration on the 2600SY. We could not read it, because the forum blocked every automated attempt, so we can tell you the topic recurs and generated sustained discussion and nothing more. The test is free: time 0 to 3,500 rpm and back, and time a full stop, orient and transfer cycle. On short-cycle work a slow ramp is a real tax.

The parameter backup and the ladder, on media, before the machine moves. The control is a genuine Fanuc, but the PMC ladder, the parameter set and the M-code package are the builder's. That is the part you cannot get anywhere else.

Control and programming

Every machine in this family ships a Fanuc 0i-TF Plus class control, badged Doosan Fanuc i Plus before June 2022 and DN Solutions Fanuc i Plus after. The 15 inch iHMI touchscreen is an option on this family rather than standard equipment, so confirm which panel is fitted instead of assuming the one you saw in a launch article. A Siemens 828D is a factory alternative, common in Europe and rare in North America, and it needs different posts and a different operator skill set.

The good news is that there is no control-generation minefield here. Unlike a used Lynx 220 or 300, there is no pre-touchscreen era to worry about. Everything in the family is one control generation.

On posts, the split matters. For two-axis and Y-axis work, the stock mill-turn post from the mainstream cloud CAM package works, with owners reporting only the occasional M-code needing adjustment. For SY sub-spindle work, the stock post had documented gaps. On the vendor's own forum, C-axis orientation for stock transfer, sub-spindle milling, and G53 and G28 handling all needed correcting, and a vendor post developer walked through the sequence. That thread ran on a Lynx 2100LSYB rather than a 2600, and the vendor confirmed the fix in March 2023, so the gap is closed on paper. Before you buy an SY, ask your CAM reseller to confirm current sub-spindle support for your exact model and post version, and price a machine-specific post if they cannot.

One more thing that is often assumed present and is not: dynamic spindle speed variation requires a keep-relay bit to be enabled and a preceding speed clamp command. It does not work out of the box.

Resell CNC Take

The Lynx 2600 is a good machine with a bad name, and the name is doing most of the damage. Four digits it shares with a heavier box-way Puma, three suffix letters the manufacturer never defines in writing, and a size index that decodes to bed class rather than to the chuck everyone assumes. Then the used market has barely started: single digits worldwide, one published asking price, no auction comps, and nothing older than 2020. Our honest read is that most buyers looking at a used Lynx 2600 should be looking at a used Lynx 2100LSYB or 2100LYB instead, where supply is deep, the control family is identical and the money is materially better. Step to the 2600 only when the larger swing, the longer turning length or the setup access is the actual constraint. And if you do want a 2600 specifically, price a new one first.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits a shop running 10-inch chuck work up to 81 mm bar that has outgrown a 2100 on setup access and jaw changes rather than on horsepower. That is the reason owners actually give for stepping up, and one put it well: the internal space is much nicer, where the 2100 feels cramped when you are setting up work or changing jaws. It suits bar-fed done-in-one parts small enough to transfer, where the SY's second spindle removes a separate operation, things like hydraulic fittings, valve bodies, pulleys, gear blanks and flanged bushings. It suits shops wanting a modest Y for off-centre holes and flats. And it suits anyone who wants a near-new machine on a current Fanuc control with a normal CAM path.

It does not suit heavy interrupted cutting in forgings and large castings, because linear roller ways damp less than box ways and the honest answer there is a Puma. It does not suit bar work near the top of the 81 mm main-spindle capacity that needs back-side operations, because the sub-spindle will not take it. It does not suit shaft work between centres if you buy the SY, which has no tailstock. It does not suit anyone expecting simultaneous two-spindle cutting on one turret. And it does not suit anyone hunting a bargain, because there is no cheap tier on this family and there is no 2010 vintage to shop.

The honest counter-case

Supply is the problem, not price. With single-digit machines visible worldwide and duplicates across platforms, you cannot shop configurations. You take what exists. A used Haas ST-30 is available constantly, and one representative listing we read, a 2019 with a 10-inch chuck, 3-inch bar and a chip conveyor, was asking 69,500 dollars. Used Okuma LB3000 and Mazak Quick Turn populations are an order of magnitude deeper than this. Depth means negotiating room and the ability to wait for the right options.

The used discount is thin. On the one asking price we could observe you are paying near-new money for a machine with 390 cutting hours, without a factory warranty, without the install and training, and without the ability to spec it.

What the Lynx 2600 gives back is that it is a current-production machine on a current control. There is no obsolescence risk, no orphan-control risk and no question about whether boards are still available. Tooling economics are good, because BMT55 is shared across half the Doosan lathe catalogue. And for a shop already running a Doosan lathe it is the same control, the same M-codes and the same operators, which is real money that does not appear on any spec sheet.

The Lynx 2100 is also sold with 6, 8 and 10-inch chucks all under one number. What the 2600 index actually tracks is bed and casting class: swing, carriage clearance, turning length and torque. Note that DN Solutions publishes no explanation of its numbering, so this is inference from specification data rather than a manufacturer statement.

What is the difference between a Lynx 2600 and a Puma 2600?

They share four digits and very little else. The Lynx 2600 runs roller LM linear guides, an 18.5 kW spindle, 10 or 12 turret stations with 16 available as an option, and turns 658 mm long. The Puma 2600 runs box ways, a 22 kW spindle, up to 24 stations, offers 12-inch chucks and long-bed L variants and a II generation, and the Puma 2600LM turns 1,280 mm. That is nearly twice the turning length and a different class of machine. The reliable check is not the badge: look at the ways. Roller LM blocks means Lynx, scraped box ways means Puma.

Does the Lynx 2600SY have a tailstock?

No. The CNC hydraulic tailstock is fitted to the two-axis 2600 and the 2600Y, and on the SY the sub-spindle occupies that space. Owners report using the sub-spindle as a makeshift tailstock and adjusting the approach distance per part on thin-wall work, but that is a workaround rather than a designed function. If your work is shafts between centres, buy the 2600Y. This is one of the most common assumptions buyers get wrong on this machine.

What bar capacity does the Lynx 2600 sub-spindle have?

DN Solutions does not publish one. Neither the Lynx 2100 and 2600 brochure nor the Y-axis brochure prints a sub-spindle bore or bar capacity for the 2600SY, and the 65 mm figure circulating on aggregator sites appears to be the Lynx 2100's bar working diameter lifted from an adjacent column. What is certain is that the sub-spindle is the smaller of the two, so the 81 mm main-spindle capacity does not carry across the transfer. Sources also disagree on the sub-spindle chuck size and maximum speed, with the European brochure and the United States distributor giving different figures. Read all three off the machine plate before you quote bar work that needs back-side operations.

How old can a used Lynx 2600 be?

Not very. The 2600SY was unveiled in 2020 and the 2600Y arrived alongside it, while the base Lynx 2600 and the 2600M were only announced in August 2022. So the practical used range today is 2020 through 2025, clustered around 2021 to 2023, and the base machine cannot be more than a few years old. A listing advertising a 2017 or 2018 Lynx 2600 is describing something else, almost always a Lynx 300 or 300M, the older 10-inch Lynx, or a Puma.

Should I buy a used Lynx 2600 or a used Lynx 2100?

For most buyers, the 2100. Used 2600 supply is single digits worldwide with no base 2600 or 2600M available at all, one published asking price and no auction comps, while the 2100LSYB and 2100LYB have deep supply, the same control family and materially better money. Step up to the 2600 only when the larger swing, the longer turning length or the setup access is your actual constraint, since the two machines share an identical spindle. And on a family this new, get a firm new-machine quote before signing a used deal.
